Hi - I'm new to the forum. Glad there is one. It's been helpful.

I have a stock 630i (Q6600 2.4), win 7 64 bit sp1, 520 GT 1 GB graphics, 4 GB 5300 RAM. So the only real change has been a crappy graphics card a few years ago.

I recently bought 4 GB (2x2) of PC2-6400 800 RAM for like $30.

I plugged in the new RAM and left 2 of the 1 GB 5300 mems in there. Totaling 6 GB.

Windows and PC recognized the new RAM. It worked. 6GB Total.

However...the extra 2 GB of RAM went into the graphic memory (shared). Although I have a dedicated card. So it's showing 3 GB of available graphics memory.

Is this good? bad? indifferent? Does it matter?

I didn't see anything in the BIOS to set it to 0 shared memory? Did I miss it?

I know I need to update my CPU/MOBO/MEM/PS eventually. Those are next on the list this year. So the posts concerning those have been very helpful.

I don't think the designation makes much difference in the end--the most important thing is that you're using a 64-bit version of Windows, which removes the 32-bit limits on RAM.

The fact that you're planning on upgrading this year even will give your end system a huge boost in performance.
