Sounds good! And yes, installing 64-bit Win7 is a breeze really (IMO), and well worth it.

Upgrade to 7 appeared to be successful...

Only issue I thought/hope I'd have:

But explorer still wound up hanging, just as it had done in Vista:

Was sadly no significant improvement:

Plus I only have 3 days to active...

Sucks that a genuine Vista key can't be used upon upgrade....

Yeah, this drive was on its way out, but I had hoped to get things a bit more functional before transferring to the new drive. I wish I could easily transfer all 301 programs on to the new drive (after upgrading that one to 7)......

Well, I have heard that at least one or more of the 6xx series (and possibly newer) of GeForce cards may have problems even with newer mobos, requiring a UEFI/BIOS update. That's the case for the ASRock P67 Extreme4:

Needless to say, if even newer mobos aren't fully compatible with the newer videos cards, older mobos could have serious issues with them...

That's great info...thanks. How about a GTX 6xx series with the original MOBO? would that work?

I don't know--the only way to know for sure would be to try it and see. But the big issue here is that these newer cards are being stifled by the stock 630i motherboard. It makes little sense to spend a lot of money on a high-powered card when its performance is only being cut short. The biggest "bang for your buck" investment is a new mobo, CPU, and RAM...then the gfx card after that.

I've used my 650Ti Boost on the stock motherboard with no issues. There was only a minor 10-20% performance cut. Enough that I personally would get a new motherboard...
