I'm going to show my ignorance here and ask why ASRock is releasing a UEFI update that supports Ivy Bridge for original P67 Extreme4 owners? (Beta UEFI L3.02, bottom of page):

http://www.asrock.com/mb/beta.asp?Model=P67%20Extreme4

...seeing as we lack the required hardware that the P67 Extreme4 Gen3 owners have which provides the PCI-E 3.0 support offered by Ivy Bridge (attached image).

I'm not complaining, just trying to figure out what (if any?) performance improvements are technically possible with this update?

It seems the purpose of that BIOS update is just to update the CPU microcode to support Ivy Bridge chips. There might also be some minor stability improvements, etc. I would expect it to have more features though.

I always update to the latest BIOS whenever available.

Thanks--that's what I was wondering; the decision by a manufacturer to update their older mobo UEFIs must surely insinuate some more concrete enhancements down the road than strictly the CPU itself (seeing as I assume any Ivy Bridge benefits are mostly linked to newer surrounding hardware?) Not to mention that the original Extreme4 is no longer available.
