 Post subject: BIOS 1.0.13 restarts computer

hi im new here and i was just wondering is there any way to flash an older BIOS version onto my xps630i seeing as the latest version (1.0.13) keeps restarting my computer after it gets to the windows XP logo screen. if so how do i do this.

Welcome.

The BIOS update itself has nothing to do with that.

You just need to set your stuff back in the BIOS, as an update resets everything. Particularly, make sure to enable RAID if you had a RAID setup, or set it to IDE mode if you don't.

But if you insist on reflashing to a previous BIOS, you can download the previous versions from Dell's website for the 630i, and flash it back. However, flashing from a newer version to an older version of a BIOS is not recommended.

And if you get the chance, please make a sig of your computers hardware and setup like I have so others can help you better.

oh okay then ill check but i dont remember RAID being on before this happened. any one know how i can flash to a previous BIOS version, because i have tried and i just keep on failing.

Do you remember if your PC came with a RAID array? I assume it did, since you have 2x 500GB hard drives....

Like I said, its not recommended to flash back, which is why the Dell application blocks you from doing it.

The only way is to do a manual flash with a BIOS flashing utility, like DOSFlash. I will leave that to you to research and figure out, because you have a high chance of bricking your board by doing so.

uhm yeah it has a RAID array but i never used it at least i dont think it was on

well i fixed it by re-installing windows XP. who knew it would solve my problem. thanks for your help.
