Simply described as "Alienware Media Plug-Ins", has anyone figured out exactly what this does? (posted to the 630i support site on July 22, 2009):

Fixed WINAMP crash after exit issue.

Version 1.0.0.08 05/01/2009

As far as I know, yes--it's the first time I've seen it; I usually browse the support site every month or so just to check for new files/updates.

It showed up over the weekend. Its a Winamp plugin that changes the 630I case lights with the music.

Its actually pretty cool, the LED's are set so each color is a frequency in the music.

Wish it worked with all sources rather than just winamp. It installs two Services, AlienFXhook, and I cant recall the other off the top of my head.

I'm in the middle of installing it and it asked which media player it wanted the plugin to be installed to (itunes, winamp, WMP, WMP 64, all, etc.)

Good point--I hadn't thought of that; I wonder what specific hardware it looks for or depends on to work? It could be any number of things--the nForce 650i motherboard, the Master I/O Board, the Dell BIOS...

I just tried downloading it, and although it appears to download, nothing is actually sent. I suspect Dell has permanently disabled/removed the download. :(

That one is for the Alienware systems. It might work, but I doubt it, because the MIO boards are completely different.

Works with my 630i (Vista 64-bit OS) using iTunes, but I can't control the octave setting or specific zones for some reason. I can change it but it won't do anything, or just defaults back (octave setting does this).

I did see in the requirement section that Alien Command Center and Audio Controller were necessary to run the plugin. Obviously I don't have ACC, but I don't know what Audio Controller they are referring to or if I can install it.

I'll look into it more later.

Pretty cool. No wonder there are so many LEDs on this case. I never even knew this feature/software existed until I found this forum. Thanks guys.

Got it working just fine in Windows Media Player on Vista 32. Of course I've recently removed Winamp, iTunes, etc and only use Google Music now. But nice to know that at least this feature of my mobo works!

Just a reminder from gdonners OP,

If you still have the stock mobo and Windows 7 64 or Vista, this plug in download will work w/your 630i on WMP

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/ ... id=R225195

If you're thinking about it, you may want to grab it before this one disappears from Dells website as well.

It's not as sexy as the WINAMP version, but it works.

Also been tinkering around with the Alienware Alien FX Editor (Link below) in addition to the WMP Plug- in (Link above)

http://ftp.us.dell.com/utility/DELL_ALI ... 205652.EXE

I have no idea why Dell only has it listed under the files for the 625 and 720.

Both programs run and work perfectly on mine. I tried to integrate the plug in with WINAMP to see how that would work and all I got was frustrated. Instead, I'll just stick to Windows Media Player and these 2 programs and leave it at that.

No adjustment available on the plug in, but after you set the LED colors on the chassis, once you start a song up, they seem to be more in tune with the bass with the FX Editor program set up, than by itself.

Once you close out WMP, the LED's default back to whatever theme setting you set up using the editor. You can also set up and save several different light themes in just about as many different color combinations as you can think of using the FX Editor as well.

Definitely cool.
