I've been thinking about this alot lately, thinking about selling the 630i while theres still a little money left in it and buying an Alienware m15x or m17x. Just wanted to know peoples thoughts. Just for reference I don't really play many games on the 630i more so on the Xbox360 to be honest as its just easier.

I use my computer for msoffice/email etc and adobe photoshop itunes and maybe counterstrike source day of defeat etc as thats all I really play on the 630i anyways.
A bit of dreamweaver and ms expression I cant think of anything else to be fair.

I'm running a dell 24" and dont mind losing a little of the resolution but want to hear from people about the quality of the screens on the Alienwares?

Hope there are people that can help

Steve

Is this going to be a non-mobile desktop replacement, or something you will actually carry around with you from time to time?

I know the M17x is a pretty big and heavy notebook, so I am not sure how good that would do. But I should be receiving an M15x shortly, and I will let you know how it is. I am sure the M15x would be a lot better for your needs vs the M17x, when taking into consideration the portability and better battery life.

The reason I ask is because the Alienware laptops are NOT mobile friendly. They are extremely heavy, and have terrible battery life, but for a reason. They definitely perform better than any other laptop I've even laid my hands on, it's absolutely amazing. From dual HDD's to dual video cards, these things just plain rock.

A few things I didn't like about the M17x:

1) Extremely heavy - I couldn't imagine having to carry this thing around
2) Poor battery life - With a required 240watt power supply, its no surprise
3) Touchpad sucks - I absolutely hated how the touchpad felt but if you use a mouse, you're good
4) Sharp edges - It looks great, but doesn't feel good on the arms when typing

A few things I loved about the M17x:

1) Performance - Bar none, the absolute highest performing laptop I've ever used
2) Beautiful styling - It definitely grabs attention
3) When used with a keyboard, mouse, and external monitor it was virtually a desktop, maybe even better

As you can see, I love the performance and styling of the M17x. The only downfalls are the weight, battery life, touchpad, and sharp edges.

All of this being said, I ended up with the Studio 17. It's lighter, has longer battery life, looks decent, performs almost the same, and only costs half the price. I got dual HDD's (non-RAID), and the same i7 830 processor that I would have gotten in the Alienware. The only thing the Studio 17 can't do is dual video cards, but I don't game on a laptop, so I didn't care about that, and RAID which isn't the end of the world. I wanted portability, and performance, which the Studio 17 gives without breaking the bank.

Hope this helps.
