Someone there to sign for it? Nothing worse than getting a missed delivery note after 3 months. . . .

Well guys....

So I received my new Alienware M15x a couple days ago. Very nice laptop. And already I have a technician coming on Tuesday next week. Can you believe that?

They messed up some stuff on the order, and I already have defective parts. They only sent 4GB 1066MHz of RAM instead of 6GB 1333MHz, and the display is only the 900P, not the 1080P like my order says. And also my DVD drive is not ejecting disks after I insert them, and I can only eject when I reboot the pc during BIOS/Windows loading. If I try to eject while in Windows, everything freezes and I have to do a hard reboot. And it does that if I use the touch eject button or if I try from My Computer. And the touchpad has some kind of lag problem, so that is also being replaced.

So already, a brand new machine, is getting a replacement optical drive, lcd screen, memory stick, and palm rest assembly.

God I love Dell.

I absolutely did not want to go through another exchange, so I asked for brand new parts to be sent out with a tech. (I think I was a little lenient and should have gotten a refund.)

Ill put up some pictures later today.

Unbelievable! You have got to be the "poster boy" for just how horrible Dell's service can be.

I guess you can say that. LOL.

It is apparently really hard to just ask for a normal system. I mean, for once, I would like my system to go at least for a year or two without something needing to be replaced, etc.

Even after 3 months, I would have expected them to get everything right this time. But nooooo.......

Sorry to hear all the grief you'r getting, must agree with davbow - regroup.

And as a little help I've been doing some research and from all the reviews I can find this one can't be beat on price point or performance. ;)

LOL, Thanks guys!! I might just order one! Perhaps I can learn a thing or two..

But anyway, back to how my laptop fails......

So after the technician came yesterday to destroy my laptop (which he did), it doesnt work now. The only thing he installed correctly was the RAM.

When he started taking apart the laptop, I had asked him to be extra careful not to scratch it because it was new. But little did the idiot listen.......For starters, he couldnt even take the display off the machine, nor disassemble it to replace it. So I couldnt even get that replaced. Dell didnt send the entire LCD kit, everything except the back cover without the hinges. In the process of removing the display, the moron didnt see the latch for disconnecting the display cable, and ripped it from the socket thinking it would come out. Wrong........So now, with him not knowing how to disassemble the display, I already knew I had dead screen now. If they sent the entire kit, it would have been easy, with just 4 screws removed from the hinges. But noooo...

Next, he tried for the palm rest assembly, which of course, he used his screw driver to pry with when not needed. It just slid right off without it, thus putting screwdriver dents in the keyboard plastic assembly. I wasnt so pissed at that, as I thought I would just ask Dell to send a new one so I can replace it after. But still, he didnt listen to the part of "being careful."

On to the optical drive.....this was fun to watch. After completely disassembling the unit, this was the last piece remaining, and the hardest to remove apparently. He tried to remove it before complete disassembly by pulling up on the drive to reveal the last hidden screw on the bracket underneath instead of removing everything to save time.....wrong again. He slipped the screw, and was basically fighting with it, pulling on it to remove the drive (I should have had this on camera). After bending my ODD bracket to hell, he decides to disassemble the drive and force the screw out from the inside, which worked...but also stripped the threading on the bracket.

Now on to the reassembly of the unit, of course, with about 5 screws leftover (not really supposed to be like that )... we powered it on, but nothing was on screen, but we can still hear windows loading and logging in, which was a good sign. But when trying to feed a disc in the optical drive, it was not working at all now, in worse condition than before. He was easily stumped. I asked him to take it apart again to check for something, and he was like its not worth the trouble. Really now????

So he calls up Dell and talks for about 10 mins and they are replacing my whole unit again. At this point, I said no, and I want a refund, but I couldnt get it because I can only get a refund within 21 days of the ORIGINAL purchased machine, which was my M1530 over 2 years ago. They would have given me credit to my Dell account, but I paid for it cash, so they couldnt do a thing.

Shortly after the "tech" left, I called Dell and asked to cancel the exchange and just send me the parts so I can do it myself, but they wont allow certain parts to be replaced without a technician.

Then again, with my curiosity, I opened my Alienware Manual, and low and behold, there were step by step instructions on how to completely disassemble the laptop like factory. He probably should have looked at it himself. I decided to rip the laptop apart for myself to see what the idiot did, and as soon as I removed the palm rest, I see that there was no SATA cable connected to the motherboard for the ODD drive. He probably left the cable on the old drive. LOL

Long story short....I am waiting for my fourth computer now. I am just this lucky I guess.

Sorry for the long post.

Man...honestly, you have the patience of Job! If they ever decide to make a reality TV show for PC users, you'll be the first one they call!

Boy you just can not win can you.
I have felt you pain many times, luckily I am Dell certified so I can get them to send me any part without a tech. My main problem is the idiots on the other end of the phone do not know how to send the correct parts. I do not have any trouble on the business side but the consumer side is horrible.
Unfortunatly I had neck surgery last week and am unable to do anything right now and had to have a tewch come out yesterday to replace a broken power port on a Studio 1555. He shows up with a new system board and power supply. the system board does not have the power port connected to it but is instead part of the hinge assmbly and connects to the systemboard via a small cable so that was a waste of time and money, then to top it off they sent the wrong power supply for the 1555.
Hopefully they get this taken care of right and soon so my daughter can have a working laptop for school.

I have only had to deal with a system exchange once and it went very smooth and I had the new laptop within 2 weeks from start to end.

I sure hope that you can get this resolved soon. I would also recomment that in the future that you have a second laptop running with the service manual already downloaded for the tech to read. I had to do this when they replaced the LED in this same laptop when it was new. I just had hand surgery that time and when the tech showed up he had never heard of the studio model and had no clue. He also did not have the plastic seperator tool so I had to let him use mine.

You just have to remember that none of these techs work for Dell. What Dell does is puts it out to bid to the local companies near you and whoever responds first that they will do the job is who you end up having come to your house. Many of the techs have little to zero experience with the model you would have at the time.

Thanks Greg, and yes I am very patient....to an extent. LOL.

dcgtls, thanks for the input. Well, fortunately for me, the the tech that came was the same one who came 3 months ago and screwed up my M1530....LOL. So its no wonder this went bad.

And also, my tech doesnt seem to know what a plastic seperator tool is. All he uses is a screw driver. Which is wrong btw, im sure no other user likes to get their laptop all scuffed, scratched, and indented with screwdriver marks during a repair and have to live with it.

I also didnt know the manual actually had instructions to completely disassemble the machine. Usually, from my perspective, I never thought Dell would give that in a manual. And Also, I figured the technician would know how to disassemble the machine. But I was wrong.

Well, lets see how it goes from now....

So I just got the new Alienware M15x today, a bit different specs, but it works perfectly...so far.

M15x Cosmic Black
i7 720QM
8GB DDR3 1333MHz
1GB ATI Radeon HD 5850
500GB 7200RPM HDD
Intel WIFI 5300AGN
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
1600x900 HD Display
Dell 370 Bluetooth Module
DVD/CD RW Drive

Not that big of a change, but at least the system was new and has no problems. Finally, I have a working laptop.

It only took what......3 1/2 Months!?!?!

At least its over....for now.

Really hope this one doesn't crap out for you.

Mind you, there is a way to be absolutely certain it stays in perfect working order...

Leave it in the box!

Hahaha! Exactly Greg! Trust me....I have been handling this thing like a newborn baby.

Honestly, if something goes wrong with this thing again in which it needs repair, I will probably do it myself, because I dont want that same tech coming to screw my computer up again.
