Haha yea. Except I might get thrown out for swearing at people when I play MW2.

It should be decent enough to play some games, but I dont know how good that GT 240M really is, especially at 1600x900 resolution. I am not expecting to play Crysis maxxed out. LOL. I can always upgrade the card later on in the future to maybe a GTX 260M or better if they are available. But at least for now, having that GT 240M GPU will use a lot less power and produce less heat for in class use.

Glad to hear you got everything worked out. Yeah, I think I'm going with an Alienware too. I've been waiting to order my new laptop for the credit to be applied to my Dell Preferred account, but as soon as its in there, I will order the M17x. I could get two Studio XPS 16's for the price of this one M17x, but I just won't be able to live with a 15.6" screen after having a 17" screen for the past several years, and I also like how the M17x comes with an ATI 5870. I'll be able to play Dirt 2, and other DX11 games with it.

I saw that HD 5870 also on the M17x. I wish they had the option from Dell to get it on the M15x. I did some reading on replacing the video card for the M15x though, and it seems like the Mobility HD 5870 will fit into the laptop, and work with the same cooler/heatsink. So at least I can upgrade it later on in the future.

I just love the aesthetics of the M15x/M17x. I cant find a laptop that has the same "wow" look to it.

Yeah, the look and overall performance is what's grabbing me, but like I said before, I know I'm going to hate the touchpad, and I'm sure I'm going to take a file and shave down the corners a bit so it doesn't dig into my arms like before.

That being said, using it with a keyboard and mouse made all the difference in the world, so I'll probably end up getting a set to leave in my work locker since that's where I am going to use this laptop mostly anyway.

Just an update, I ended up completely changing my mind again, and ordered the Studio 17 today. Dell finally got the full HD 1080p 17.3" screens back in stock, so I grabbed one today before they ran out again.

The only thing the Studio 17 is missing that they M17x would have had is an ATI 5870. The Studio 17 with i7 processor only comes with an ATI 4650, but that's not a big deal. I don't game much on a laptop anyway. Dell claims that they 9cell battery lasts anywhere between 2 1/2 to 4 hours, so that's a LOT better than the M17x, plus its a lot lighter too, and the best part is it's $2,000 cheaper for the same hardware!! I'm even getting the dual 500GB hdd's in RAID 0 that I wanted.

The system automatically got a $248 discount at checkout, but I called and they gave me another $50 off, plus free 3 day shipping, so I couldn't pass it up.

NIce JDookie!! Good to hear bro!

I am still waiting in the dark........LOL. No news of any estimated ship date or anything. I am just praying that they dont cancel it like they did to your M17x replacement.

The ATI card is not bad at all bro. I have the HD 4670 in the XPS 1640, and it rips through CODMW2 with a P8700 Dual Core, so you should be fine. Plus with your video card, it will generate less heat.

But our desktops are the "big boys" to handle the games anyway. :D

So when are you expected to receive the new system? Did they get you an estimated ship date?

Estimated Delivery Date is 5/24, but that can always change. When I placed the order, she told me the 28th, but by the end of the ordering process, she said that it changed to the 24th.

Yeah, I still have an $1800 credit to use, but I'm going to hold on to that for when they release a 30" 2560x1600 120Hz monitor for my desktop.

Just an update, my estimated delivery date changed from 5/24 to 5/12. It looks like its going to ship out tomorrow, but they are sending it via 7day shipping so, it won't be here until Wednesday. Doesn't matter anyway because I have a promotional exam coming up Saturday next week that I need to study for, and I won't have time to play with it anyway.

That is great JDookie!!

Well, I myself have an update on my exchange, and of course, they screwed up. I sent the Studio XPS back a while ago, and I called in today to check up on the system and to my surprise (not really lol), they have no record of anything about the Alienware.

So all this time I thought they were getting the system built and what not, I have been waiting for nothing. Unbelieveable! So they are going to give me a call tomorrow to let me know what is going on. I wish they could just give me a credit for my system so I could just buy another one like they did for you, but I dont think that is going to happen......yet.

Its going to be a month this week since I have been waiting for my laptop to get fixed/replaced, and this is getting frustrating. I just really dont have the best of luck when it comes to these kind of things. I am glad I decided to give them a call or I would have been waiting forever.

Yeah, exactly what's happening to you is what happened to me, and resulted in a refund. I'd push for that actually because you get a lot more for your money now.

Yea I would really rather get the refund and spec out my own system, but the other thing is that I purchased it on a credit card that I had with a different bank I no longer have, so I dont know how that would work if they did decide to give me a refund.

I got a call yesterday and they got a hold of the supervisor and he actually remembered my situation, so I think its all being taken care of. And for the inconvenience, they upgraded the laptop to the 1920x1080 HD screen instead of the 1600x900 screen. Hopefully they pull through with all this cr@p, because I am going to be really pissed if they dont make this right. LOL.

I am just glad that the semester is over right now and I dont actually need the laptop at the moment.

Update -

So they have finally processed everything, and I should be getting the order number by tonight or tomorrow at the latest, and I should get the new system within a week or two.....hopefully. I had asked them about a possible refund or credit so I can just buy a new one, but they wouldnt do it since they already processed everything. I guess as long as I get my laptop, I am happy.

Ill let you all know when I get it in, with some pics, etc. And JDookie, please do the same when yours arrives. I would like to see your notebook as well.

Maybe we can bench them a bit. LOL.

Glad you finally got it all worked out. I don't know what their deal is lately, but they really are screwing up with the system exchanges lately.

My laptop will be here tomorrow. I'll post pics when I get it.........argh, I REALLY need to study though. I spent all day playing with the desktop today, and shouldn't have.

Okay, time to hit the books. This promotion means a LOT, so I can't screw it up. If I don't post pics tomorrow, I promise they will be up this weekend.

Well, here is a surprise:

I just got my replacement from Dell today (seemed pretty fast), and you really wont believe this, but they sent me back the same computer I had sent back to them!! Can you believe this crap?!?! And they didnt even give me the extended battery, nor the other stuff. WTF!?! :wtf:

So now I just called them back and demanded they give me a credit or refund, because I have dealt with this long enough, for a f#$^ing month!!!! I am going to take your advice JDookie, and use this opportunity to get that refund/credit, because I have had enough right now, and this seems to be the only option I have left. Apparently, they just cant seem to match my computer, and the easiest part to match is the freaking extended battery!

I spent $2k on this laptop, and I went and even spec'd this one out that they sent me, and it doesnt even break $1400, which is not what I paid.

This just......sucks. LOL. I hope your experience is going better than mine is JDookie. :goodluck:

Yeah, I'm finally all sorted out, but it did take FOUR MONTHS to complete. All you can do is be patient and continue complaining until you get what you want.

My latest endeavor was when the new laptop arrived Tuesday. I ordered it with two 500GB hard drives thinking it would come in a RAID 0 configuration to find out that this motherboard doesn't support RAID. So this means I just have two separate drives, and didn't want that. I have extra drives all over the place that I could have used for that purpose. I wanted two matching drives in RAID 0 pre-configured from Dell.

So, I called them up to return that second drive, and they told me that they can't take returns on individual internal items, and that only the entire system could be returned. Not wanting to return the WHOLE system just for a drive, I asked for a supervisor and explained the situation.

In the end, they told me to keep the drive, and they are giving me the $100 credit back to my account anyway. So, in the end, they gave me a free drive AND another $100 off. Not bad.

Ok, so another update:

A Dell Supervisor called me yesterday letting me know about my situation with the refund/credit, and they didnt give it to me, but instead, he offered one more exchange to ensure I get the correct notebook with the correct accessories this time. I told him that it would just be easier to get the credit and build my own, but he said they wouldnt be able to credit me the money for my 3 years of warranty left, which would be a waste and I didnt want to lose that. So I am now waiting for my 3rd notebook exchange. Hopefully everything will be ok this time, because its been over a month now, and I am getting even more frustrated...........

I hope you get the correct system this time, but they *did* give me a refund on the extended warranty I purchased, even though I only had one year left of the 3-year extended complete care warranty. They gave me a full refund on my total purchase price, from the computer itself, to the extra battery (which I still have), to the extended warranty, so that supervisor is full of it. He could have refunded it if he wanted to.

Yea I was getting that feeling too. I think he just wanted to keep me within the exchange process. But in any case, if this 3rd laptop is even 1 spec out of line.......I will ensure I get a refund, if it takes the power of a F*&%ING attorney. Because I am just really fed up with it.

I wonder if David can help....

Update:

Well, apparently the reason my 3rd exchange was cancelled was because they had a hold on my account, stating that they didnt receive the broken laptop I had sent back more than 2 weeks ago. Luckily I kept the tracking receipts from Fedex....

So after getting that hold removed from my account and since no exchange was in order, and seeing that my patience has worn down to the point that there is nothing left  ...I demanded a refund/credit (again), which they refused to give me! Can you believe that? After all I have been through!?!? :wtf: I dont understand what is so hard about doing this, but apparently they cant comprehend a simple request. So now, since 6/4/10, the 4th exchange has been initiated, and yet I play the waiting game again....

I dont know about you guys, but I think I am having a great experience right about now. :wtf: I am a man with a lot of patience, as most of you can see, but there is a F*%^ING line....somewhere.

The 2 month mark is approaching soon....

Sorry, I'm JUST getting back to catching up on this thread. Your experience is a carbon copy of what I went through. All the way down to my third system exchange getting canceled due to their system showing that the original system was never returned........yet, it was the very FIRST thing I returned to them.

Anyway, the only difference is, I refused the 4th system exchange and they offered me the refund, which I am VERY glad I took because I am very happy with the Studio 17 compared to the Alienware M17x they wanted to send me.

JDookie, at least the guys that handled your case eventually gave you a refund. I cant even get that, which is ridiculous. At least your case worked out.

As of now, the status is still the same. No update, no laptop yet. It has now been 2 months. LOL.
