I've been reading rumours about this system on various sites. It's supposed to be getting released at the end of Feb, but can't seem to get any links to reviews etc.

If any of you have a link it would be most welcome. :D

Dell simply likes to keep secrets, who was even expecting the 625 to come out?

The end of Feb release date is simply a guess and it is based on previous year release dates. Generally, Dell introduces a new system every year:

- the XPS 400 series in October
- the XPS 600 series in Feb
- the XPS 700 series in May

etc.

Theoretically, the 640 should come out in a month but who knows what the Dell marketing strategies are going to be in a time of economic crisis. It is also possible that because of technical problems they don't have the 640 ready and got some extra time introducing the 625. After all, Dell has been discussing this AMD configuration since Feb 2008.

Actually, I think the 625 is actually what was going to be the 630a before it was scrapped . . . sort of makes me wonder if the issues with the 630 had Dell move to a completely different model number just so that stigma wasn't there . . . IMHO.

I think you're right--I suspect the 630i was very much an attempt in experimentation. Bad idea.

lol I can just visualize Ace Ventura buying a 630i, getting frustrated trying to get it working, then marching straight into Dell's front office, whipping off his sun glasses, twisting his head in typical Ace fashion and saying "spank you very much!" ;)

IMO, that will be the biggest key--it needs to be distinct enough from the 630i, and the motherboard is really the only way to do that.

Uhm, very interesting: Dell XPS 435, thank you for the link.

This 435 is an interesting machine:
- the ram is DDR3 which can be expanded up to 24GB
- processor i7
- graphic card up to ATI HD4870 1GB
- the power supply is a little small, though, 475W
- nice chassis design too
- PCI: 1 slot
PCIe x1: 3 slots
PCIe x8: 1 slot
PCIe x16 (Graphics): 1 slot

Odd indeed! :-S I'm still trying to figure out why not a larger power supply, and apparently Dell is gambling on PCIe X1 slots quickly becoming popular?

I hope they made their calculation, ...... otherwise it gets pretty scary.

The ATI HD4870 1GB needs two power cables to run. Therefore, I hope two power cables are present and that 475W are enough to run such power consuming card.

They must have done some testing ....... hopefully .......... besides that, nice configuration. It looks like there is a good fan ventilation too.

So practically the XPS 430 which lasted in the market for only 1 month was the external tower of the XPS 420 and the internal parts of the 435.

I bet that they took the 430 away from the market because of lack of ventilation. The tower of the 435 looks like a better tower.

I just do not understand why someone would buy the XPS 625 now that the 435 is in the market. For around US$1399 you can have a great configuration of the XPS 435.
