I know this site is pretty much a ghost town now, but I had to post my final update: I finally got around to updating my original XPS 6301. Who knows, I may have set the record for the last updated XPS 630!

I had a Haswell CPU (Devil's Canyon) and an ASUS motherboard available, so I used those parts plus purchased red LED fans for the front, a new Seasonic PSU, Samsung 850 EVO SSD, and a Noctua Cooler. Removed half of the HDD cage and used the other half for the SSD and the original WD 500GB HD. Kept the Master I/O board so the card reader, original LED lights, etc. are all working. (Can't change the LED lighting, but it kept its last color setting.)

Haven't got around to overclocking yet, but the CPU is already running at 4.0GHz with just the X.P.M. settings on the motherboard. Cleaned and polished up the red/silver case and it looks like 2008 new--and runs like 2015 new!

Well, mine isn't really upgraded. Still running, the wife uses it. I think I need to replace the PSU in it though, so I just might replace the one in my HP and put the old HP one in my Dell.

Mine is still going, not seeing any real use, but I mess with occasionally. My main rig is a 6700k/GTX 1080.

I rebuilt XPS 630i back to stock and it's running a QX6850@3.33ghz, 8gb DDR2, and a GTX 680.

My pair of XPS 630is are still going strong, started thinking about another video card update but I really don't need to yet.

I tried to upgrade my Alienware Area 51 ALX to a single GTX 1080 SC From a pair of ATI HD 6950s... it failed, the 1080 kept black-screening rebooting the computer after about 7 minutes of fullscreen 3D.

Game On!

Sounds like you had a PSU problem. I'm running a Nvidia GTX 1080 in my Hp and it works great.
