Hey all. I used to post here a long time ago. I still have my original 630i case, psu and hard drive.

It came with a E8400 and 2 8800gt gpus and 4gb ram

I replaced that with a AMD 965 BE, new mother board and new ram. Also replaced the dying 8800s with a Core 216 Gtx 260.

Replaced the gtx 260 with a 460 then a 660.

After that the cpu fried. I chucked the cpu and mobo, sold the 660.

It has been almost 2 years since that happened. I find myself wanting to game again and this laptop I am on, while good for internetting, is almost useless for gaming.

My question is will my original 630i case be ok to build in. Meaning, will the usb ports still work with a usb 3.0 mobo. I know they will not obviously run at 3.0 but will they revert at least to the 2.0 speed so I can plug in my mouse and keyboard?

I honestly dont even know what usb 3.0 does, I would assume it transfers data faster but I really only use the usb for peripherals.

If I am able to use the case, psu and hdd, I can spend a little more on an intel cpu maybe instead of the fx6300 I am thinking of getting.

I will be gaming on a 1920x1080 monitor.

SHould I chuck the case in the trash or is it possible to use it?

Thanks gang.

(Sorry for the late reply--don't get on here often)

Hmm; I would assume if the USB connections are the same, that they should work, but I hesitate to say so, because I'm pretty sure USB 3.0 draws a bit more power than USB 2.0.

USB 3.0/3.1 does transfer data faster--especially, the larger the file, the faster it goes. It comes in handy if you ever deal in large files or just need the speed at some point in time:

Personally, I would go with a new case, since most new cases offer the following over the 630i case:

1) Better ventilation
2) Toolless installation of hard drives (at least more so than the 630i)
3) More options for cleaner/easier wiring/cabling

Newegg is a great place to look (if you're in the U.S.); I use them for their customer reviews alone--excellent resource.

Thanks a bunch. I am trying to build a budget gamer. Looks like my core will be the fx 6300 and the gtx 750ti. :)

I'm in the same boat. My 7 year old 630i appears to be on its way out. I was thinking about gutting it and reusing the case, but as mentioned, there are plenty of other cases available that offer better ventilation and are easier to work with. Still on the fence as to what I'm going to do.

Here is a good resource I've been looking at to get an idea on parts pricing. They lay everything out that you'll need, excluding the price of an OS and peripherals, of course.

I just stopped using my 630 and built one of my own.I used http://pcpartpicker.com/ to help me pick parts that were compatible +you get the best price on each item at different sellers. They also show different builds from different people at different price ranges.
