im considering taking the $200 credit. At this point, im getting tired of argueing with someone who obviously wont listen. and $200 off would be nice.

Yeah but you'd have to buy more Dell stuff... :P Hmmm, wonder how much a 700 series mobo would cost from Dell?

well the only one they have for sale is the 780.. and youd need DDR3 memory for it. since the 650 uses DDR2

I noticed that Dell doesn't appear to provide an SLI cable with that, unlike all other SLI-capable motherboards from third parties...

Well of course they don't supply the cable, that would cost them 50 cents or so and dig into their profits. Can't have that now can we? :P

Well dell said they wont send me that motherboard, because it would void the warranty, and they cant do that ( supposedly ) This was the american woman i was talking to again. She hadnt heard about the $200 credit either, same with Chris M.

She's checking into and and getting back to me mon or tues. If worse comes to worst. ill just take the $200 credit, and buy the motherboard myself and put it in. Im a computer tech so its not a huge deal. just a pain. But that would void my 1 year warranty, which im not too worried about.

Void the warranty - *rolls eyes*

Dell could always tell you they are going to honor the warranty with the new board. It drives me crazy when people act or are powerless and are in customer relation/service positions. What is the point of having someone in that position if ultimately they have no power? /climbs down off soapbox

I had another call from Dell at noon today (this time from a Hispanic guy). He was asking about my complaints, so I pointed him to the 630i Collective Issues page. He said he would consult with some people who understood the technical issues and call me back. I told him to take his time, but to do a good job of reading through the issues!

The thing to keep in mind here is that Dell could quite easily start to resolve these problems by sending a tech out to replace the Dellified 650i SLI motherboard with one of the proper nForce 780i or 790i SLI boards they sell...then start tackling the rest of the issues in the list.

One positive aspect about the call was that he promised to (at no charge to me) send a proper set of 630i DVDs that actually have Vista SP1 rolled into them. The set I'd just received was another clone of what I already have. :?

I'm still waiting, 11 days now, for a reply from someone that said they'd look into the "technical" issues and have even e-mail for a status update...still nothing.

Drange, did you manage to get a name and phone number (with extension) for the last person who called you? I have a sneaking suspicion I may now be in the same boat you are...waiting on the empty promise of a follow-up call.

No one has actually called me...they only contact me through e-mail for some reason even though I've provided a phone number I can be reached at. Maybe it's because I sent the e-mail to Michael Dell and the head of marketing as well as the customer service folk. ;)
