davbow,

Thank you! If you get a chance, could you add Indiana? I would be honored to help with compiling (and posting) a statement of Dell's false advertising for 630i users to submit, but have no idea of what's required in legal terms.

I think that talking points are more important than a template statement - I think it is important that complaints be made in the consumer's own words and that each complaint be different, i.e., not a "canned" complaint, IMHO.

I agree. I think a general guideline of what to include would be beneficial but if everyone just sends in the same complaint I don't think it will be taken as seriously as a personally written one. I would be worried that if everyone used a "form" complaint it could be perceived as a "get a free upgrade if you are a 630 owner" from Dell campaign.

Well. I finally found out how Dell works lol.

I was bounced from Tech support to Customer care, and back again.. about hrm.. 8 times.

Finally i said screw it and used Chat. Seemed easier and more reliable.

This is the transcript as follows. and please dont spam my mother's email =p Ill hunt someone down lol

You are now being connected to an agent. Thank you for using Dell Chat

Hello and welcome to the Dell XPS experience. My name is Bhargava. How may I assist you?
6:48:18 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
Yes I recently was told i was being shipped a replacement motherboard for my XPS 630. and I was curious what model/chipset the motherboard actually is.
6:48:48 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
I will be glad to give you the details.
6:48:48 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
Let me have a look at the details of the system and we will see what is going on. While I am looking, could I get your phone number to update our records?
6:48:59 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
***-***-****
6:50:43 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
The XPS 630I has a NVIDIA™ nForce 650 SLi chipset .
6:50:56 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
is that what they are shipping me as a replacement motherboard?
6:51:38 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
May I please know if you have a case number or a dispatch number for the replacement motherboard?
6:51:51 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
i was given neither. Just that I would be receiving it in a few weeks
6:52:43 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
just told that i would be receiving it i meant
6:53:28 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
The motherboard will be the same. May I please know the issue you were having with the system that lead to a motherboard replacement?
6:54:02 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
ok well, first thing. The motherboard is not supposed to be the same one. The technician told me Dell would be sending a newer model motherboard. I even asked him 3 different times if it was NOT the 650 SLI
6:54:29 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
and the problem I am having is false advertisement on Dell's part. I was lead to beleive several things about the computer when I purchased it that turned out not to be true
6:54:58 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
6:55:38 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
I do not see any dispatch created. Can you please guide me through the issue so that I can check what best can be done.
6:56:28 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
Well here it is in a nutshell. Basically When I ordered the XPS 630i. I was lead to believe, via Dell's website, That I would be getting a computer that had LightFX 2.0, PCI-Express 16x and ESA compatibility. None of those 3 things are true
6:57:33 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
The system does have 2 PCI-Express 16x slots. We would have to download the LightFX 2.0.
6:57:43 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
Let me give you a link to download.
6:58:02 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
Actually. The system has 2 PCI-Express 8X slots. not 16. As per the owners manual
6:58:07 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
despite the website saying they were 16X
6:58:33 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
Let me confirm that.
6:58:38 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
and also according to Dell on the Forums. LightFX 2.0 is not supported by the 630i. Despite it saying it came with the computer
6:59:58 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
Bhargava_164259 pushes page, http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/s ... #wp1104354
7:01:03 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
Bhargava_164259 pushes page, http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_sys ... _6.02.html
7:01:14 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
Well if you read the manual. It says 16x SLOT. with 8 lanes
7:01:17 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
thats not 16x
7:01:18 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
thats 8x
7:03:07 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
Let me check.
7:03:09 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
True 16x slots have 16 lanes dedicated to the slot
7:04:39 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
also the 2nd link is not LightFX 2.0 Thats just system tools to change the LED colors. Again, not what was advertised online when i purchased the computer
7:05:18 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
The best suggestion that I would give in this scenario is to contact customer care.
7:05:23 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
I would suggest you to contact customer care on 1-800-964-8321.
7:05:53 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
I have repeatedly. Noone seems to be able to fix the problem. And my i get transferred back and forth repeatedly from Tech support to customer care
7:06:10 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
is there a manager or someone that is American that I can call or have call me?
7:07:33 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
I certainly understand your concern. If I go ahead and send a motherboard, you will be receiving the same. I can certainly transfer your chat to my Manager. Please allow me 2 minutes while I brief him on the situation.
7:07:42 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
ok thank you
7:09:49 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
Please allow me 3 minutes while My Manager joins the session.
7:09:52 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
ok
7:11:48 PM Agent Bhargava_164259
Thank you for your patience.

7:15:45 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
Let me explain the situation. So you understand

I apologize for the situation; Let me look into it and I’m sure I’ll be able to help you.
7:16:24 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
When I was reviewing PC's to purchase on Dell's website. I saw the XPS 630i. Clear as day on the webpages were the following advertisements
7:16:49 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
LightFX 2.0, 16x PCI-Express, and ESA Compatible. All of which I found not to be true at all
7:17:18 PM Agent Allen _138130
SLOT 1 is the primary GFX slot and SLOT 4 is the secondary GFX slot.
7:18:29 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
I contacted the Ohio State Attorney General and filed a complaint. I received a call from a Dell Technician about half a week later. I explained the situation and he offered to send me a replacement motherboard. of GREATER model than the 650 SLI. I then talk to Chris Mixon on the Dell Community Forums, and he explains that Dell is just sending another 650 SLI motherboard instead of the better one that the Tech, on 3 different occasions, told me was NOT the 650 SLI
7:18:53 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
Ive been unable to find anyone capable of fixing this problem and/or giving me the information to contact Dell's legal department
7:19:58 PM Agent Allen _138130
Please accept our apologies and would like to assure that we are doing everything to resolve the issue.
7:21:18 PM Agent Allen _138130
As I understand, Chris has promised you to replace the motherboard other than 650 SLI motherboard, is that right?
7:21:41 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
No Chris did not. The tech i talked to on the phone did. Chris just explained that they were not sending me a better motherboard when I talked to him
7:21:53 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
I have the tech's extension if you would like that
7:22:03 PM Agent Allen _138130
Oh! okay.
7:22:17 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
His extension is 5373708
7:22:43 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
and I talked to him on July 3rd at around 2pm Eastern Time
7:23:16 PM Agent Allen _138130
Thank you for information.
7:23:16 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
Well that was the second time. Im sorry let me look for the initial call
7:23:21 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
he called me twice.
7:23:53 PM Agent Allen _138130
pbscheidt, I would like to escalate the case to the case management team.
7:24:00 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
ok i dont have the initial call, but it was July 1st or thereabouts
7:24:08 PM Agent Allen _138130
As I can only replace the like to like motherboard.
7:24:34 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
understandable. Im just a bit upset that i was promised a better motherboard, only to be told that i wouldnt be getting one
7:24:54 PM Agent Allen _138130
Please accept our apologies .
7:25:08 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
Thanks.
7:25:13 PM Agent Allen _138130
I completely agree with you.
7:26:13 PM Agent Allen _138130
May I Know your telephone number and alternate number with best time to reach you for a call back?
7:26:17 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
Like i said, the original problems stems from False advertisement on Dells website. Which i have complete records of, and so does the Ohio State Attorney General. Id just like this issue fixed. Im not out to get a freebie, but the only way to fix the ongoing problems with the XPS 630 is to exchange the motherboard with a greater model than the 650 SLI
7:26:45 PM Customer pbscheidt@yahoo.com
ok i have home and cell numbers. Home Number is ***-***-****. Cell is ***-***-****. And my Name is Chris

Ugh :x Talk about frustrating and infuriating--I'm glad you've got the Ohio AG in the loop on this; I suspect they'll be quite helpful/necessary!

Aside: I added the Massachusetts consumer complaint PDF to the Collective--thanks!

BUT... the motherboard is hardwired for only 8.8.1.1, you cant run 16x on it, despite being advertised as such
12:28:17 PM Agent Ravindernath_75967
Thank you for the time.
12:28:42 PM Agent Ravindernath_75967
I see that the motherboard PCI- E slots are also designed for 16 X cards.
12:28:57 PM Customer Chris Scheidt
right, but the motherboard DELL used is capped at 8x
12:29:02 PM Agent Ravindernath_75967
May I know is the 16 X cards not fitting on the slot physically?
12:29:23 PM Customer Chris Scheidt
no it fits fine. Its just not running at the speed advertised
12:29:47 PM Agent Ravindernath_75967
May I know where are you checking the speed?

Well I get a call from " Allen " amazingly enough he has an indian accent ( go figure )

Basically they said, and i Quote " The 650 SLI is the highest model motherboard that will work with the 630 and your processor "

i explained several times that it wasnt true and told him many had upgraded privately.

He said he couldnt do anything. And I said well " ill talk to my attorney " and he said " Have a good day *click* "

So i called the Ohio AG Office and left a message, plus called my local news stations Troubleshooter ( IE the guy you call when you get scammed ) and let him know all about it.

You've taken some (IMO) very good steps--the biggest being that you don't give up. That's what it's going to take to make Dell stop stonewalling their angry customers. I have yet to hear from my State Attorney General here in Indiana, but hopefully this week...

Nice! I'm still waiting to hear back from the person I have been talking to after sending in my letter. Dell certainly is into the hurry up and wait philosophy.

And the point of your profoundly illuminating post would be what exactly? To rain on everyone's parade? To dazzle us with your blindingly prescient insights on how global corporations work (which, by the way, were not invented in America)? To be pissy and blindly/ignorantly anti-American because you have nothing better to do? Do you even own a 630/630i?

Go troll the Dell fanboi sites if you want to be a living downer - the people on this site are trying to make the most out of their falsely advertised machines and don't need you adding insult to Dell's injury. This is a time to lead, follow, or get out of the way. I'm helping lead by providing information and advice on what people can do to return their machines after the 21-day return period and/or contact their state attorneys general to take further action. What are you doing?

Hey,

I live in Maine here is the link to the AG site on purchasing goods and services. Please add to list.

http://www.maine.gov/ag/consumer/purchasing_goods/index.shtml

Turns out Maine is 1 of 10 States that have an 'implied warranty law'. Read more about it!

Quote:
Learn what to expect, even if you don’t have a written warranty. Maine is 1 of only 10 States that has an “implied warranty” law. This law provides automatic warranty protection in addition to any written warranty.
