I had pre-ordered a 630i when they were coming out back in early 2008 and this past January (2010, to be clear) I had finally started really looking in to upgrading some components, namely the video card when I came across all the limitations and issues that I was not aware of when I purchased the 630i. Well, after 6 weeks of going round and round with Dell, we finally came to a resolution which ended today. Today I received an Alienware Aurora as a warranty replacement for my 630i. I wish I knew what I said or did that lead to this result, but I just told the truth.

Basically what ended up with me buddy.

I had the XPS 730x and it had problems, and they just ended up swapping it out for a new Alienware Area 51.

What are the specs? And post up some pics. I got some up in the Alienware Discussion forum. You can make a thread and post everything up.

Very nice! Not bad at all. Just out of curiosity what were the original specs of your XPS 630, for comparison?

You can use ImageShack.us for hosting the pics.

Intel Q6600 Quad Core
4GB DDR2 800MHz
500GB Drive
Dual ATI 2600 (which I immediately replaced :) )
Pretty nice upgrade for me, really... They originally said they were going to replace my system with a refurbished 730, but after a little over a week said they couldn't find one and were going to just send me an alienware.

Trust me, you would not have wanted the 730 anyway. LOL.

It is actually quite a BIG upgrade. Going from a regular Quad Core with 2 threads to an i7 Extreme with 8 threads, extra ram + DDR3, and the GPU's I guess were more or less ok. But the 5850 you have is the perfect addition to the system. That system is probably double the $$ if not more than the XPS 630. lol.

But again, great news and congrats on your new system. Hopefully you do not get any issues with it like we did with the XPS 630's. :D

Great PC. It is actually pretty long.

I keep my PC on the desk, and that looks like it would defintely not fit on mine. LOL.

And I see you dont have the vents on top? I guess that is only for the ALX version?

It is very long, in fact i'd say the only tower systems I've seen that are longer are servers... and most of those are really old. Not horribly tall, though, few inches shorter than the 630i. As for top venting, the top is perforated with paper punch sized holes.

Ahh, yours has the perforated vent up top. There is another model, the Aurora ALX, which has the motorized vents up top that open and close. My system has these vents which was why I was wondering if yours did.

And is your system also pretty heavy? Mine weighs almost 70-80lbs! I cant even take it to a LAN party (not that I have time anyway lol).

It is very heavy and the sides look like something taken off an armored vehicle. :) I know the shipping manifest from FedEx said 65-70 lbs. Now I just need to get out of my incredibly dusty rental house!

LOL. Yea same with mine. Shipping said it was about 79lbs, and it is a workout moving this thing around. ;)

I know cleaning this thing is going to be interesting. I wish they would have put removable dust filters on the system.
