Hi Guys,

So I received my new Dell XPS 630 2 days ago brand new.
The PC keeps crashing constantly similar to what others have posted.
It totally freezes up with the CPU load at about 10% and RAM at about 17%.
If it crashes when playing music it stutters the music just like a scratched CD but much faster.
Ctrl + Alt + Delete will do nothing.
The only way to recover the PC is to press and hold the power button, which I hate doing, but unfortunately I have no choice.
I know I am not the only person with this issue - reading this forum there are quite a few others too.
I installed "Jazler Radio Simple Pack" and "Breakaway Broadcast Processor".
The PC will crash in less than 10 minutes if I leave open the meters window of "Breakaway Broadcast Processor".
I even crashed the PC today while scrolling through a long web page fast from top to bottom.
I have tested "Jazler Radio Simple Pack" and "Breakaway Broadcast Processor" on 3 other PC's with no problems ever - Pentium 4 2.4Ghz, Pentium M 2.13Ghz and AMD Dual Core 1.8Ghz.
XP Professional is right up to date.
Graphics card driver is up to date with Dell drivers download.
Realtek HD audio driver is up to date too.
I even tried the system with an Orban Optimod 1100 Professional Soundcard (€2,500) and it still crashes.
Somehow I think this is Dell's baby to sort out and the issue is with the 630 itself.
I hate the thoughts of getting on the phone to Dell Support for hours upon hours. :(

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Conor

hello Conor Hyland

what for XP you have installed ? 32bit or 64bit
first check out your ATI Catalyst Display Driver for Windows XP Professional/Home Edition.

remove the old friver from DELL.

use this nice tool Driver Sweeper
http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper

32 bit Catalyst Software Suite
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/ ... dm_enu.exe

64 bitCatalyst Software Suite
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/ ... cc_enu.exe

i hope this helps

Check the stickies on the top of this forum too.

Sadly, you propably won't be very happy after... :/

If what you read in the stickies sounds familiar/applicable to what you are experiencing, my advice would be to send it back ASAP, before you lose that option and are stuck with a factory unstable comp like the rest of us.

Thanks Kickdown & Mikes,

So to follow up on my situation...
I had completed everything that I knew Dell Support would get me to do.
Stuff like update drivers / diagnostics / utilities / reformat but to no avail :(
An Engineer came out within 2 days of talking to the Tech.
He replaced the motherboard and the graphics card and hey guess what - it solved that problem! :)

It ran flawlessly for about a month until the other day I started getting blue screens - not good! :(

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
and:
STOP: 0x0000000A

Seemed to be related to a driver reading from / writing to RAM or bad RAM.
Again all RAM tests passed!
The only hardware and software I had installed before I started getting these blue screens was a USB wireless router (Netgear) and a "Jazler Radio Simple Pack" USB hasp key (dongle).
Checked windows update for updated drivers and hey - there was one for the hasp key.
This seemed to solve the above blue screens.

Just got another blue screen today, but I can't remember what it was...
If it happens again (hopefully not) then I will post up...

Thanks everyone,
Conor

Well my blue screens are back! :(

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP: 0x0000000A

Seems to be driver related...
Time to disable one device driver at a time to try and find the culprit.
Slow process - the last blue screen was 2 days ago!
Any suggestions / help / advice would be much appreciated...

Thanks,
Conor

Go into msconfig and disable all startup programs, and see if you still get blue screens. If you do, boot into safe mode and see if you still get them. This will rule out software or drivers.

As far as the memory, I have seen memory pass test after test in BIOS, but as soon as Windows starts up, it would fail.

If you suspect your memory, initiate an online chat with Dell and tell them that your memory failed the test, and you want new sticks. They should send them right out to you, and that will rule out that part.

I had same problems on the 64 bit os blue screen was due to using a amd card on the nvidia mother board. switched back to nvidia ,and problem fixed. constant freeze error as well was resolved by removing wireless keyboard seems the drivers kept crashing system but yea seems could be a driver incompatibility with the os

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 4092MB RAM
Hard Drive: 733 GB
nic card Killer Xeno
Video Card: Nvidia gtx 280
Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor
Sound Card: Speakers (2- Creative SB X-Fi) Titanium
Operating System: Windows Vista™64 bit Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.090803-2339)
Motherboard: Nvidia
Computer Case: xps

Welcome to the board. But, uh, this is like a super old thread.
