Hi Guys,

I'm considering buying an XPS 630 to run with Windows XP and would be grateful if anyone can help me with a few questions / concerns:

1 - Is liquid cooling compatible with Windows XP and does it need software to control it?

2 - Is the "nVidia GeForce GTS 240" and "nVidia GeForce GTX 285" compatible with Windows XP?

3 - I have an "Orban Optimod PC 1100" PCI soundcard. The soundcard's manual states that the computer’s PCI bus must be Plug & Play PCI Version 2.2 compliant, 32-bit, 33MHz, with a transfer rate up to 132MBytes/sec. This soundcard will operate in a 3.3V or 5V PCI slot and with bus expansion. Will this soundcard be compatible and fit in the PCI slots on the motherboard of the XPS 630?

Thanks in advance,

Conor

1. Liquid cooling can be used. What kind of liquid cooling setup do you have in mind...Custom :?: Dell's brand :?: Not my specialty but there are some enthusiasts on this site that can give great advice :)

2. You can use those gpu's with no problem.

3. I've checked the 630i manual and it states that there are (2) slots that are 32bit, 33MHz but it does not give you the transfer rate. You might want to contact Tech support (good luck on that one) and see if you can get some specific info regarding to PCI slots. I would strongly advise you try to speak to a few reps from the tech team (within a 2-day period). It has been known that you can or will receive bogus info.

Thanks drBlahMan!

1 - I was going to go with the Liquid Cooled Heatsink offered by Dell. One sales guy says it's compatible with Windows XP and another says it's not!

2 - Same story with the "nVidia GeForce GTS 240" and "nVidia GeForce GTX 285". One sales guy says it's compatible with Windows XP and another says it's not. Plus a few days ago when I went to select the "Windows Vista Home Basic / Windows XP Professional" bundle, it came up with an incompatibility error with the Operating System for both sound cards! I see since that they have taken the Windows XP option off the website! They sure do have drivers for Windows XP for "nVidia GeForce GTS 240" in the drivers download of the website!

3 - Same story with the PCI soundcard. One sales guy says it's compatible with the PCI slots on the motherboard of the XPS 630 and another says it's not. I've checked the manual too and I 100% agree with you. I have it installed in a "Dell Dimension 8250 Pentium 4" and it works fine on the 8250's motherboard. This soundcard is only 2 years old and cost me €2,500, so you bet I want to use it on the XPS 630!

4 - Just one other question if someone can answer this for me it would be great! What's the difference between 630 and 630i and I don't see an option to select a colour for the 630 on the website. I want a black one! 8-)

Thanks guys,

Conor

The 630 and 630i are the same - there is no difference except the "i" ;)

There is a section about the non-difference in the Resource Collective Document . . .
