Hi All,

I'm writing from Italy. I have a Dell XPS 630i since 2009. Please find here below the specs:

Vista home premium SP1 32 bit
INtel core duo E8500 @ 3,16ghz
Ram 4 GB
Graph.card: 2X - Nvidia 9800 GX2

After one year I had to rebuild the system since it was a bit slower than initially, I made it, I had some problems but it worked.

After that I've been using the pc for almost a year, It happened time to time to have some BSOD but not so many.. nothing so annoying, never when playing or working..
BUT lately using softwares such as Photoshop CS 5 and same also for previous versions, I had memory problems, when uploading a file to work system was slowing down a lot ! and most of cases CS5 had to be switched off.. even restarting the same.
Reading somewhere i'Ve seen this could have been caused by memory allocation problems.

Yesterday, after almost another year I've had sane decision to rebuild.

After reinstalling a clear Windows Vista 32 bit ( the original copy received with the XPS ) and all was fine until I started uploading the drivers.
When I come to the GX2 time, I install the driver ( I've tried some many in different installations.. also formatting and re trying ), when I reboot after the installation, I finally, matematically, find myself in a beautiful BSOD telling me to check memory...

If i go to the deviced manager in windows after the BSOD reboot i see the yellow sign close to the GX2 places and in the proprieties, in their status i can see something like :

The device had a problem and was shut down. ( Cod.43 )

Can anyone help me out ? I'm quite desperate as of now,

thanks in advice to all the helpers.

Frnzka

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, a code 43 in device manager usually means the card is defective, 70% of the time. The 9800GX2 has a high failure rate. The card was just designed poorly. You will see on the internet that almost everyone who has that card has died on them very quickly.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

Actually since my post i've made out some attempts. Apparently there's something to do also with the windows update thing.
I have Vista home premium SP1. When i could manage to download all the updates and finally had chance to get SP2 i could resolve the problem ( Always having a very old driver on, when I try to update the Nvidia GX2 driver to the latest it's not working anyway.

So, the cards are working but for some strange reason one of the two time to time is giving again code 43...

In any case in case I need to replace the graphic cards, which one could you suggest ? Of course compatible with my system ?

Thanks again
Frnzka

What is the native resolution of the monitor? And what kind of games do you play?

You're running 2 9800 GX2's? One issue I see is, if you are running the stock PSU, you are going to get all kinds of problems.

Hi,

I reply to both the last posts in one, native resolution of monitor is 1680*1050.
I play usually rfactor and things like that.

Anyway, I'm every day more sure that this problem is related to vista and not to the cards, since they both work and suddenly one of the 2 stops. if later on I re start the pc can happen that I have 1 monitor or both...
when one monitor is not working is becaus one of the 2 GX2 goes into cod. 43...

impossible to understand..

Second post, related tot running the stock PSU... i need to check since i'm not so expert and I need to understand what is about,..,

Anyway thanks to all for the help.
