I am thinking about buying a new monitor for my set up. Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations? I am thinking of something like a 24inch High Definition monitor that would do justice to my system. I live in the UK so any reasonably priced monitors sold by Amazon.co.uk would be good.

I don't know how much you want to spend, but three monitor brands that immediately come to mind as being good choices for quality and reliability are ASUS, Dell, and Samsung. An LED back-lit IPS would be a good choice, but as always, check the user reviews for each model:

My previous monitor was a 22" Dell and never had a problem in the 5 years I had it.

My current monitor is now another Dell 24". Full HD resolution, 1920 x 1080p. The colors and display are both excellent. If you look at the Hardware Mod page, you can see a pic of it. One thing Dell does well is make a great monitor.

Amazon has it for 207.00 US, but, if you look around, you can find them new cheaper and refurbished even cheaper still.
