It is with a heavy heart that I report the demise of my much loved XPS 630, a loyal and valued companion through thick and thin for the past 6 years.

Failure to post, (no beep codes, no hard drive indicator light, fans @ 100% and case and PSU lights ok, no keyboard, mouse or screen) indicate a M/B and/or CPU failure.

Because of the age of the stock components, replacements were in the pipeline anyway, but my hand is now forced.

I have read threads here regarding possible upgrades, but I would appreciate any advice re suitable M/B-CPU-Cooler-RAM bundles.
e.g. should I include Haswell compatible parts or even the new Devil's Canyon Pentium chip?
Which of the myriad MSI & Gigabyte boards should I consider?
I exclude Asus because of installation issues.

I mainly need a good gaming system - little video encoding, probably will not overclock and have a €500 budget.

As a follow up to my previous post has anyone got any opinion re the relatively new MSI Z97S-SLI Plus board?

Good price and interesting specs for a mid range board. :?:
